India built 250 Homes in Myanmar for Rohingya
  • The project was signed in 2017 between India and Myanmar
  • Under the agreement, the government of India had committed to spending $25 million over 5 years for rehabilitation of Rohingya
  • The houses made can survive the earthquake and cyclonic storms and are of size 40 square metres each
  • The 250 houses are made in the worst violence-affected areas of Nan Thar Taung, Shwe Zar etc.

About Rohingya:

  • They belong to the Indo-Aryan ethnic group and reside in the Rakhine state of Myanmar
  • Before the 2016-17 crisis, about 1 million Rohingya lived in Myanmar
  • Since 2017, about 6 lakh Rohingya refugees have crossed the borders of Bangladesh and 40,000 to India
