IAF inducted 8 AH-64E Apache

Current context: Eight AH-64E Apache attack helicopters were formally inducted into service by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on 3rd September 2019.

  • Apache is the most advanced multi-role heavy attack helicopter in the world.
  • It is a multi-role combat helicopter with anti-tank guided air-to-air missiles system that works on fire and forgets.
  • The Apache helicopters would replace the current Mi-35 fleet.
  • India is the 16th nation to add Apache and the AH-64E is the most advanced variant, Boeing.
  • Contracts for a total of 22 Apache helicopters were made from the U.S. government and Boeing in September 2015 and the entire package will be given to the IAF by 2022.
