- This is the 1st ever cross-border petroleum product pipeline in the South Asia region.
- As per an arrangement in place since 1973, tankers carry petroleum products from India to Nepal.
- This is a 69 km pipeline with a capacity of 2 million metric ton per annum, will provide petroleum products to Nepal at a cheap price.
- The project is led by the Indian Oil Corporation and the Nepal Oil Corporation.
- India is already supplying diesel to Bangladesh through cross border trains.
- The inauguration was made jointly by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli through a video conference.
