Current context: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has appointed Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as the its new Chairman.

  • The appointment was made after getting approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
  • The chairman’s position of the NSE was vacant since Ashok Chawla resigned from the post in January 19.
  • Girish Chandra Chaturvedi is a retires IAS officer and former Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
  • He has also served as a non-executive chairman of the ICICI (Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India) Bank.
  • The Headquarter of the National Stock Exchange is in Mumbai, Maharashtra and was founded in 1992.
