Current context: The central government has announced to launch a nationwide vaccination drive to prevent eight diseases under Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2.0 across the country.

  • Children under the age of 2 years and pregnant women are covered under the government's flagship scheme against the eight vaccine preventable diseases.
  • The 8 vaccine preventable diseases included in the scheme are:
    1. Diphtheria
    2. Whooping cough
    3. Tetanus
    4. Poliomyelitis
    5. Tuberculosis
    6. Measles
    7. Meningitis
    8. Hepatitis B.
  • Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2.0 (IMI) aims to achieve targets of full immunization coverage in 272 districts spread over 27 States.
  • The IMI 2.0 will be carried out between December 2019 and March 2020.
  • The campaign has been launched in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on 2nd Dec 19 and would be conducted in 4 phases.
