- HURL is Joint Venture Company promoted by the three Maha Ratna Companies - Coal India Limited, NTPC Limited and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- Its objective is making the country self-reliant in Urea.
- The Government approved in 2016 the revival of three sick Urea plants located at Gorakhpur, Sindri and Barauni.
- The HURL is being looked as a major emerging player in the Urea market having total installed production capacity of 38.1 LMT of Neem Coated Urea per annum.
- As per the Minister, the country is importing 70 to 80 Lakh metric tonne of fertilizer every year.
