Current context: Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said that it has been closely monitoring the spread of Novel Corona Virus (nCoV).

  • The out-brake of the virus has reported 41 confirmed cases of novel Coronavirus (nCoV) including one death from Wuhan, China on 5th January 2020.
  • According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the preliminary investigations suggest a link to the seafood market.
  • WHO has denoted Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as Wuhan coronavirus or Wuhan seafood market pneumonia virus.
  • The Novel Corona Virus (nCoV) affects humans which cause illnesses to people and also circulate in animals including camels, cats and bats.
  • It has seen limited human to human transmission and the risk at a global level is perceived to below.
  • The Health Ministry has issued a travel advisory to the passengers travelling to and from China on the issue.
