  • The World Health Organization (WHO) has given the official name for the disease caused by the new coronavirus as Covid-2019. The renaming is done as the word coronavirus refers to the group of viruses it belongs to, rather than the latest strain.
  • The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra upheld the constitutional validity of the SC/ST Amendment Act, 2018 which rules out anticipatory bail in case of atrocities against SC/STs. As per the verdict, anticipatory bail can only be granted in cases where prima facie case is not made out.

  • The Uttar Pradesh Government has launched toll-free helpline numbers 1800-180-5310 and 18001805312 to solve the queries of students ahead of the Board Examinations. The helpline number will remain active from 8 am to 8 pm with experts of different subjects including English, life sciences, geography etc.
  • Gulmarg in Baramulla district of the UT Jammu & Kashmir, will host a five-day national winter games event from 7th March under the banner of Khelo India.
  • New Zealand defeated India by five wickets in the third ODI Cricket and clinched the series 3-0 at Mount Maunganui on 12th Feb 2020.
