Current Context: Iran has launched its first military satellite called "Noor" into orbit.
‘Noor’---First Military Satellite of Iran
  • The satellite has reached its orbit and it is orbiting 425km above the earth’s surface which was launched by a three-stage rocket. The three-stage rocket was powered by a combination of solid and liquid fuels.
  • The satellite is launched by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the country’s armed force group.
  • This launch has raised tensions with the US at a time the two countries are already facing off in the Persian Gulf. Also, the US has accused Iran of violating the 2015 UN Security Council resolution.
