‘Prana-Vayu’- A Low-Cost Ventilator Developed by IIT-Roorkee and AIIMS-Rushikesh

Current Context: IIT-Roorkee and AIIMS-Rushikesh have come up together to design a low-cost closed-loop ventilator called ‘Prana-Vayu’ to combat the biggest health pandemic COVID-19.
‘Prana-Vayu’- A Low-Cost Ventilator Developed by IIT-Roorkee and AIIMS-Rushikesh
  • The closed-loop ventilator can deliver the required amount of air to the patients.
  • Prana-Vayu ventilator is incorporated with an automated process by controlling pressure and flow rates. It also has the feedback path which is used to control tidal volume and number of breath per unit.
  • It is applicable for all age group patients especially elder people and the manufacturing cost is Rs 25000.
  • The research of this ventilator began at Tinkering Laboratory in IIT-Roorkee. The team members are Prof Akshay Dwivedi and Prof. Arup Kumar Das and they received support from Debendra Tripathi who is from AIIMS Rushikesh.
