Current Context: IIT Ropar developed a UV Germicidal irradiation technology-based device to sanitize the grocery items and currency notes.
UV Germicidal Irradiation Technology Based Device—IIT Ropar

  • It is a trunk-shaped device that is fitted with ultraviolet (UV) germicidal irradiation technology, which is used in water purifiers and therefore people are advised not to look directly at the light inside the trunk as it can be harmful. The device aims to aid the fight against COVID-19.
  • It takes 30 minutes to sanitize items, and after sanitizing them the items should be kept inside the trunk for 10 minutes which is a cooling-off period before one takes the items out.
  • It costs around Rs 500 and can be placed at doorsteps.
