Current Context: Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a loan agreement of $145 million with the Government of India and West Bengal state government.
- The loan is approved for the purpose of improving flood management strategies and irrigation services in the Damodar Valley Command Area (DVCA) in West Bengal state.
- The project is named as West Bengal Major Irrigation and Flood Management Project.
- The project will be highly beneficial to 2.7 million farmers from five districts of West Bengal.
- The West Bengal state government will be improving the irrigation facility and thus the agriculture by optimizing the use of surface and groundwater. This will also improve flood management.
