Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a special economic package of Rs 20 lakh Crore to drive the nation in the pandemic situation of COVID-19.

  • So Finance MinisterNirmala Sitharaman declared various relief measures to the different sectors of the country. She recently announced various measures in the second and third part of the Abhiyan.
  • She announced that free food grains supply to the migrants will be provided for the two months i.e. May and June. Pilot scheme for portability of ration cards will be extended to 23 states.
  • She also announced that Government of India will provide Interest subvention of 2% for prompt payees for a period of 12 months to MUDRA Shishu loaners, who have loans below Rs 50,000. The current portfolio of MUDRA Shishu loans is around Rs 1.62 Lakh crore. This will provide relief of about Rs 1,500 crore to Shishu MUDRA loaner.
  • A special scheme for the street vendors will be launched. Under this scheme, the bank credit facility for initial working capital up to Rs. 10,000 for each enterprise will be extended and it is expected that 50 lakh street vendors will be benefitted under this scheme and credit of Rs. 5,000 crore would flow to them.
  • Rs 70,000 crore has been injected to boost the housing sector by extending the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme for Middle Income Group (annual Income between Rs 6 and 18 lakhs) and will be extended up to March 2021.
  • Rs 6,000 crore has been declared for Creating employment using CAMPA (Compensatory Afforestation Management & Planning Authority )funds.
  • Also, an emergency fund of Rs 30,000 crore for NABARD has been declared in order to help farmers for meeting crop loan requirement of Rural Cooperative Banks and RRBs. This will be benefited to about 3crore farmers to meet their post-harvest Rabi and current Kharif requirements. Also, Rs 2 lakh crore has been declared for the Kisan Credit Card Scheme.
  • Centre allocated Rs.4000 crore for the promotion of herbal cultivation. Under this, 10,00,000 hectares will be covered in the next 2 years.
  • Rs.10,000 crores scheme for the formalization of Micro Food Enterprises (MFE) has been announced.
  • Rs.74,300 crores have been inducted for Minimum Support Price purchases and Rs.18,700 crore for Kisan fund transfer.
  • Rs.13,343 crore has been allocated for the National Animal Disease Control Programme for Foot and Mouth Disease and Brucellosis.
