President of India Announces Two Ordinances for Rural and Agriculture Sector

Current Context: President of India Ram Nath Kovind has announced two ordinances to boost the rural and agriculture sector of India.

• The two ordinances are: (a) Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance 2020. (b) Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020.
• Both the ordinances will aim to boost rural India and the farmers who are engaged in agriculture and allied activities.
• Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance 2020 : This will support the farmers and traders who are engaged in sale and purchase of agricultural produce by providing them facilities at remunerative prices so that they can carry our barrier free trading.
• Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Ordinance 2020: This ordinance will provide national frame work on farming agreements and will also protect and empower farmers so that can engage in agri business firms, wholesales export activities etc.
