Current Context: First manhole cleaning robot or an automatic sewer cleaning device named as ‘BANDICOOT’ is inaugurated at Guwahati, Assam.

  • The robot was inaugurated by Guwahati Development Department Ministry.
  • Thus Guwahati has become the first city in North East India to have a manhole cleaning robot.
  • The robot is developed by Indian Startup company named as Genrobotics. It is developed under the Make in India initiative.
  • Indian Oil Corporation under the CSR initiative has granted the funds to develop BANDICOOT.
  • Such manhole cleaning robot was first utilised in Gurugram and Coimbatore initially and Guwahati has become the third city in India to have such robot.
