‘Corosure’ Test Kit for Coronavirus—IIT Delhi

Current Context: IIT Delhi has developed a low cost testing kit for the COVID-19.

• The kit is named as ‘Corosure’ and it is considered to be the world’s most affordable corona testing kit.
• The kit was launched by Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.
• The cost price of the kit is Rs 650, which can perform 2 million tests in a month.
• The kit is probe free Reverse transcription-polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) COVID-19 diagnostic kit. The current testing kit used in the country and worldwide is a probe-based. Whereas the Corosure is probe free testing kit which gives equivalent accuracy to the current one.
• It has also received approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI).
