Current Context: Food and Agriculture (FAO), the United Nations has released the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2020 report.

  • As per the report, India has received 3rd rank in 10 countries in terms of gaining forest area during 2019-2020. 
  • As per the report, 0.38% annual gain in forest in reported for India.
  • The list is topped by China, followed by Australia and Chile.
  • FRA has acknowledged the Indian Government’s Joint Forest Management programme which has resulted in an increase in community managed forest covered area in the Asian continent.
