Current Context: Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed the P7 Heavy drop system.
P7 Heavy Drop System for IL 76 Aircraft-- DRDO
  • The P7 Heavy drop system is capable of para dropping military stores weighing up to 7 tons from IL 76 aircraft.
  • The P7 Heavy drop system is developed under the Make in India initiative.
  • The designing part of the system is made by Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), which is an R&D Lab of DRDO in Agra, UP.
  • The manufacturing part is done by L&T and the parachutes are manufactured by Ordnance Factory which is comprised of five main canopies, five brake chutes, two auxiliary chutes, one extractor parachute.
  • The P7 Heavy drop system is made of ferrous and nonferrous materials.
