Current Context: IIT Kanpur has developed and launched an Ultraviolet (UV) sanitizing device named as ‘SHUDH’.
‘SHUDH’ UV Sanitizing Device— IIT Kanpur
  • The acronym for SHUDH is- Smartphone operated Handy Ultraviolet Disinfection Helper.
  • The UV Sanitizing device can be controlled using a smartphone thus allowing sanitization from a distance, thereby following social distancing norms.
  • With the help of a smartphone, the on/off operation of the device, its speed and location of the product can be controlled.
  • SHUDH is having 6 UV lights built on it, each of them is of 15 watts and the monitoring of these UV lights is possible from a distance.
  • As per the initial test, it has resulted that SHUDH in its full operation can disinfect 10x10 sq.ft. room in 15 minutes, which makes it vulnerable to be utilised in hospitals, hotels, schools, malls etc to kill coronavirus.
