Current Context: Climate-Smart Cities Assessment Framework 2.0 (CSCAF 2.0) is launched by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs (independent charge) Hardeep Singh Puri.
- Along with this, the minister also launched ‘Street for People Challenge’.
- Both the initiatives were launched during a virtual event organized by Smart Cities Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
- The objective of CSCAF 2.0: (a) To provide a roadmap to cities to fight climate change (b) To build a climate-sensitive approach to urban planning and development.
- There are total of 28 indicators which are divided into 5 categories for CSCAF 2.0.
- The 5 categories are: (a) Energy and Green Buildings (b)Urban Planning, Green Cover and Biodiversity (c) Mobility and Air Quality (d) Water Management (e) Waste Management.
- ‘Street for People Challenge’: The challenge aims to inspire Indian cities to adopt measures in order to make cities more walkable and pedestrian-friendly.
