Current Context: Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated the Doorstep Banking Services by PSBs which is part of EASE (Enhanced Access
and Service Excellence) Banking Reforms and Department of Financial Services, 2018.
- This doorstep banking service is launched with an aim to offer hassle-free and convenient banking services to Indian citizens.
- The service will be offered through universal touchpoints of call center, web portal or mobile app.
- The banking services will be offered at the doorstep by doorstep banking agents which will be deployed to work as service providers at 100 centers across India.
- Currently, services like pickup of the negotiable instrument, new cheque book requisition slip, pick up of 15G/15H forms, IT/GST challans, Delivering Demand drafts and non-personalized cheque book etc are offered to the citizens. However, rest of the financial services will be made available at doorstep from October 2020.
- The benefit of this service can be availed by the customer at nominal charge and is expected to be highly beneficial for senior citizens and divyangs.
