Current Context: Department of Post launched a scheme titled ‘Five Star Villages’.
- The scheme is launched to provide universal coverage of flagship postal scheme to Indian rural areas. It ensures that postal services and products reach to every rural part of India.
- The schemes which are covered under ‘Five Star Villages’: (a) Savings Bank Account, KVP certificates, Recurrent Deposit Accounts (b) Sukanya Samridhi Account (c) Funded Post Office Saving Account which are linked to IPPB Accounts (d) Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (e) Postal Life Insurance Police or Rural Postal Life Insurance Police.
- The ‘Five Star Villages’ scheme will be implemented by Gramin Dak Sevak and the team will be headed by Branch Postmaster.
- 5 GDS will be appointed in each team who will conduct a door-to-door awareness campaign and will provide information about schemes under ‘Five Star Villages’.
