Current Context: India and Japan has entered into MoU with respect to Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between armed forces of India and the self-defence forces of Japan.
- They have signed MoU in order to achieve cooperation to provide training to their armed and self-defence forces in the areas of UN Peacekeeping operations, Humanitarian International Relief and other allied areas.
- Both India and Japan will work to improve interoperability between armed and self-defence forces by attaining bilateral defence engagements under special strategic and global partnership reforms of two nations.
- Under this MoU, the Japan Maritime Defence Force (JSDF) will be allowed to use India’s military installations in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Also the Mutual Service Logistic Pact under this MoU itself, allows Indian Navy to access to Japan’s bases in Djibouti.
