‘COVIRAP’: A COVID-19 Test Kit by IIT Kharagpur

Current Context: Researchers from IIT Kharagpur has developed a low-cost COVID-19 test kit named as ‘COVIRAP’.
‘COVIRAP’: A COVID-19 Test Kit by IIT Kharagpur
  • The COVIRAP diagnostic machine is successfully validated by ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) because of efficient features.
  • The result provided by COVIRAP machine are similar to RT-PCR and gives result in less than an hour.
  • The cost of testing using this machine is around Rs 500. 
  • COVIRAP is a cuboid-shaped portable machine whose developing cost is around Rs 5000. 
  • Along with coronavirus test, other tests like influenza, malaria, dengue, tuberculosis can also be performed using COVIRAP.
