Current Context: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired ‘Rudram-1’.
DRDO successfully Test-Fired ‘Rudram-1’
  • ‘Rudram-1’ is a new generation anti-radiation missile.
  • It was test fired at Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha and was launched from SU-30 Mk1 fighter aircraft. 
  • ‘Rudram-1’ is having speed of Mach two or two times the sound speed. It is capable of bringing down wide range of enemy radar system, communication networks and air defence systems within a range of 250 km. 
  • Rudram is developed by DRDO for Indian Air Force, it is encorporated with INS-GPS navigation system with Passive Homing Head for the final attack. The Passive Homing Head detects, classify and engage the targets over a wide band of frequencies.
  • It can hit the radiation target with pin-point accuracy.
