- BrahMos is basically a supersonic cruise missile.
- It was test fired from an indigenously developed stealth destroyer of the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea. The stealth destroyer was the INS Chennai, from which it was fired.
- The missile performed extremely complex manoeuvres and hit the target with pin-point accuracy.
- BrahMos missile is prime striking operation missile which ensures warship invincibility. It engages naval surface targets at long ranges.
- India and Russia have jointly designed, developed and produced BrahMos missile. Both the nations have developed this missile under a joint venture called BrahMos Aerospace.
- It is developed by DRDO (India) and NPO Mashinostroyenia (Russia).
- The BrahMos name to the missile is given after Brahmaputra river and Moskva.
- BrahMos can be launched from submarines, ships, aircrafts and land platforms.
- The missile topped the speed of Mach 2.8, which is three times the speed of sound.
