Current Context: IIT Guwahati has developed a low-cost technology which helps to produce anti-ageing compounds.

  • It is developed from agricultural products like tea, orange peels, onions, pulses, sea buckthorn, berries and parsley.
  • This technology does not use any organic solvents, which results in an increase in price. 
  • This low-cost technology is developed by Mihir Kumar Purkait, head of the Centre for Environment ad Professor in Chemical Eng. Department along with student named V L Dhadge. 
  • It is based on using size-based pressure driven membrane separation process, in which extracts of plants and fruits are passed through fabricated membranes which separate selected flavonoids.
  • After this, moisture containing part is fridge dried in order to get the powered product.
