Current Context: The 17th ASEAN-India Summit was recently held virtually.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the summit.

  • The summit was chaired by Prime Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
  • Vietnam is the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
  • At this summit, India declared a contribution of USD 1 million to Covid-19 ASEAN Response Fund.
  • The overall focus of the summit was on tackling pandemic COVID-19,solve regional and international issues of common interest related to South China Sea and Terrorism
  • During this summit, both dignitaries welcomed the adoption of new ASEAN-India Plan of Action for 2021-25
