Current Context: The Textile Ministry launched ‘Local4Diwali’ campaign for Diwali. The campaign is launched with a moto to promote the Indian handicraft, which is India’s cultural heritage and a source of income to people.

  • Also, as per data, the sector of handicraft is a major background responsible for women empowerment as 55% of workers and artisans belonging to this sector are women
  • The campaign is launched to motivate people to purchase or gift Indian handicraft products on this Diwali festive season.
  • This will boost the handicraft sector and will thus help artisans to increase their income
  • Thus this due to this campaign, the sales and promotion of handicraft will increase
  • After the promotion of the idea of ‘Vocal for Local’ by PM Modi, every sector is working to promote and boost local businesses and strengthen the moto of Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
