GOI signs MoU for Compressed Bio-Gas Plants

Current Context: The Government of India has entered into MoU with leading oil and gas marketing companies with an aim to set up Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) Plants all over India.
GOI signs MoU for Compressed Bio-Gas Plants
  • The MoU is signed under SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative. 
  • The Compressed Bio-Gas Plants developed under this MoU will allow the generation of biogas from crop waste.
  • Under this MoU, around 900 Compressed Bio-Gas Plants will be setup.
  • Initially, the GOI signed MoU for setting up of 600 CBG Plants. And currently, 1500 plants are under execution process.
  • Also, GOI has set a target to set up around 5000 CBG plants by 2023-34. 
  • The biogas generated from these CBG plants will be used for automobiles.
  • The MoU was signed with the companies like: JBM Group, Adani Gas, Torrent Gas and Petronet LNG, Indian Oil, Praj Industries, CEID Consultants & Bharat Biogas Energy.
