Current Context: India has entered into an agreement with World Bank to modernise transport sector in Meghalaya.

  • They have signed an agreement of USD 120 million.
  • With the help of this fund, improvement in 300km strategic road segment will take place with the help of climate-resilient and nature-based solutions.
  • Due to this improvement in the transport sector, Meghalaya will emerge as a leading hub of trade with Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.
  • This project will uplift sectors like small scale industries, agriculture areas, tourism, health and education centres in Meghalaya.
  • Also, access to a health facility will improve because of efficient road connectivity.
  • Around 500,00 people of the state will get the benefit of this improved roads connectivity.
  • This fund will help to boost the ‘Restart Meghalaya Mission’.
