NAFED’s Honey FPO Programs launched by Agriculture Minister

Current Context: The Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar launched the five Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) programs.
NAFED’s Honey FPO Programs launched by Agriculture Minister
  • These FPOs programs are launched with respect to the production of honey. 
  • The programs belong to the NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) under the Formation & Promotion of 10,000 FPOs scheme. 
  • It is launched in 5 Indian States namely, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. 
  • The aim behind this launch is to promote FPO which will result in agricultural reforms in India.
  • The program will be executed in East Champaran (Bihar), Morena (Madhya Pradesh), Bharatpur (Rajasthan), Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) and Sunderbans (West Bengal). 
  • The NAFED will support to establish Honey FPO Programme in these 5 states. It will promote formation and promotion of FPOs of beekeepers and honey collectors with the help of Cluster Based Business Organisation (CBBO) and Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP). 
  • Also, NAFED will help in branding and marketing strategies for honey along with exploration of the overseas market. 
  • This initiative will prove beneficial to around 4000-5000 beekeepers and honey collectors.
