Current Context: The Green National Highway Corridors Project of GOI is to be developed in Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
Green National Highway Corridors Project
  • For this purpose, the GOI has signed a loan agreement of $500 million with World Bank. 
  • This project will help to increase the capacity of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways which has set the aim to construct 783 km of highways in various areas by making use of safe and green technology designs.
  • The Green National Highway Corridors Project will offer efficient transportation facility for road users. It will offer connectivity and will thus increase trade opportunities.
  • This project is effective because it promotes efficient use of water and construction materials to reduce depletion of natural resources which will help in reducing Green House Gases.
