Current Context: The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.

  • It was test-fired from INS Ranvijay in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory.
  • Its strike range observed was 300 km and it successfully hit the target ship near Car Nicobar islands in the Bay of Bengal.
  • The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile is developed by BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd. It is the joint venture of India and Russia. 
  • The anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile has a maximum speed of 3450 kmph. 
  • Also recently, the land version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was test-fired from Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory.
