Current Context: The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has projected India’s GDP to contract 7.3% for the current fiscal year 2020-21.

  • Earlier in September 2020, it had projected a contraction of 12.6%.
  • Also, it has revised its growth forecast for the December 2020 quarter and March 2021 quarter to 0.1% and 2% respectively.
  • Also, as per NCAER, the fiscal deficit of the centre and state together will amount to more than 14% of GDP of FY2021.
