Current Context: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) partnered with Skylo to launch satellite-based Narrow Band Internet of Things network (NB-IoT) in India.

  • This is the world’s first NB-IoT by BSNL and Skylo. 
  • The IoT solution for this is developed by Skylo and this solution is connected with BSNLs satellite ground infrastructure which provides PAN-India coverage, including Indian seas. 
  • This NB-IoT solution will prove useful to fishermen, farmers, and in sectors like construction, mining and logistics.
  • The solution is launched to fulfil BSNL’s vision to explore technology to provide affordable and innovative telecom services and products to all core sectors of India. 
  • The NB-IoT is a Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) technology which improves the power consumption of the devices, spectrum efficiency and system capacity.
  • It is developed to offer a wide range of new internet of things devices and services to core sectors of India. It is compatible with 2G, 3G and 4G mobile networks.
