Centre at Leh in Ladakh.
- While inaugurating the centre virtually he emphasized the need for an IMD centre at Leh as the region has lofty mountains with no vegetation, high slopes, and a lot of loose debris and soil which makes the region prone to various natural hazards like flash floods, cloud burst, glacial lake outbursts, and avalanches.
- Therefore, the IMD Centre will help to prevent the losses caused due to natural calamities in this region by providing the prior safety indications and will strengthen the weather-related early warning system in Ladakh.
- The centre will be providing a range of weather forecast services, like range from short (3 days) and medium (12 days) to extended (1 month) period.
- The centre will provide weather data to tourist places like Pangong Lake, Nubra, Kargil, Zanskar, Drass and Khalsi.
- The centre will also help to forecast suitable weather conditions for mountaineering, trekking and farming.
