Dr.Harsh Vardhan Inaugurated the Doppler Weather Radars

Current Context: Union Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Science and Health and Family Welfare, Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated Doppler Weather Radars in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

• The Doppler Weather Radars were inaugurated in Mukteshwar village of Uttarakhand and Kufri hill station in Himachal Pradesh.
• Thus due to this Uttarakhand has got first of its kind Doppler Weather Radar.
• These radars were inaugurated during the 146th Foundation Day of India Meteorological Department (IMD) and are installed under Integrated Himalayan Meteorological Project of Ministry of Earth Sciences.
• The Doppler Weather Radars installed in both the states will improve forecasts for weather conditions especially for Char Dham and Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimages.
• They will offer data of severe weather to the weather forecasters, which will allow IMD to offer welfare and safety services to the community.
• Dr Harsh Vardhan also inaugurated the multi-mission meteorological data receiving and processing system. It is established in IMD in partnership with ISRO.
