Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Kochi-Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline which is 450 km long.
Kochi-Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline
  • The pipeline is a one step forward to fulfil the GOI’s aim of ‘One Nation One Gas Grid’. 
  • The Kochi-Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline was constructed by GAIL India Ltd with the funds of Rs 3000 crore. 
  • The pipeline will be carrying natural gas from LNG regasification terminal at Kochi, Kerala to Mangaluru, Karnataka.
  • The Kochi-Mangaluru Natural Gas Pipeline which is 450 km long is having the capacity to carry 12 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meter of Natural gas per Day). 
  • It will be offering affordable and environment-friendly fuel in the form of Piped Natural gas (PNG) to the households and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to the transportation sector.
  • The pipeline will offer natural gas to the industrial sectors.
