Current Context: The National Hydro Power Corporation Ltd (NHPC), Power Development Department (PDD) and Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) have
NHPC, PDD and JKPDC Signed MoU for Mega Hydro Project in J&K
entered into MoU to set up a mega hydropower project in UT Jammu and Kashmir. 
  • The three entities will be implementing 850 MW Ratle Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP) & 930 MW Kirthai-II HEP and will be executing Sawalkot HEP (1856 MW), Uri-I (Stage-II) (240 MW), and Dulhasti (Stage-II) (258 MW).
  • The projects will be built and executed with an investment of Rs 35000 crore.
  • This mega hydropower project will improve the power sector of J&K, provide energy security and 24 hours power supply to the UT.
  • These projects will provide additional 3498 MW power in upcoming 3-4 years.
