Current Context: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully demonstrated its Free-Space Quantum Communication over a distance of 300 meters.
Free-Space Quantum Communication Demonstrated by ISRO
  • The demonstration took place at the Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad in between the two line-of-sight buildings within its campus.
  • The demonstration was conducted at the night to avoid interference from direct sunlight.
  • The experts performed a demonstration using quantum-key-encrypted signals.
  • As per ISRO, this is thus the major achievement for unconditionally secured satellite data communication using quantum technologies.
  • The space quantum communication is comprised of NAVIC receiver for the time synchronisation in between the transmitter and receiver modules, gimbal mechanism system to have an optical alignment.
  • Also, the Quantum Key Distribution technology uses the Quantum Communication technology which grants data security.
