Current Context: The state government of Karnataka has signed an MoU with ITC.
Gov. of Karnataka signed MoU with ITC
  • The MoU was signed to execute a watershed development programme, which covers over one million acres and 100 watersheds in the state.
  • The MoU was signed under Karnataka Watershed Development Department and ITC’s social investment programme called Mission Sunehra Kal. The partnership will work for a tenure of 3 years.
  • The MoU is basically a part of Karnataka’s ‘Watershed development for drought proofing’ programme. This programme aims to cover 1.16 million acres of watershed area in 29 districts of the state.
  • Under this MoU, ITC will from an expert group that will provide guidance and training to the government officials to apply the company’s drought-proofing framework for planning, implementation and monitoring of the programme.
  • Both the entities will work to fulfil the motto of Jal Shakti Abhiyan and More-Crop-Per-Drop.
