Current Context: The Union Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister Raj Kumar Singh launched Gram Ujala Scheme.
Gram Ujala Scheme
  • The Gram Ujala Scheme is launched to offer the world’s cheapest LED bulbs in rural areas of the country at a cost of Rs 10 only.
  • The first phase of the scheme was launched from Arrah in Bihar.
  • During the first phase, 15 million LED bulbs will be distributed across villages of 5 states.
  • The LED bulbs will be offered by state-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd’s subsidiary Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL). It will offer 7 watts and 12 watts LED bulbs with three years’ warranty to the rural community of India.
