Current Context: The 30th BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India and China) Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change was hosted by India.

  • The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar.
  • The meeting observed the participation of Ricardo Salles (Minister of the Environment of Brazil), Huang Runqiu, (Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China), XIE Zhenhua, (China Special Envoy for Climate Change) and Barbara Creecy (Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment of the Republic of South Africa).
  • At the meeting, all the dignitaries agreed to cooperate in the Chilean Presidency of COP 25 and the incoming United Kingdom Presidency of COP 26 for a successful outcome in Glasgow.
  • They assured to work jointly with all other Parties for the success of COP 26 in an open, transparent, consensus-based and party-driven manner.
  • They also agreed to provide support to developing countries and overcome their challenges and issues.
  • The BASIC Nations are taking global efforts to combat climate change and also taking steps to implement their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
