Current Context: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan to improve the road maintenance and transport connectivity in the Chennai-Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) in Tamil Nadu.
ADB sanctioned Loan to Improve Connectivity in CKIC in TN
  • The ADB has approved the loan amount of USD 484 million for the same.
  • The CKIC is part of India’s East Coast Economic Corridor and it stretches from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu and then allows connectivity of India to the production networks of Southeast and East Asia.
  • This CKIC will help to boost industrial centres and regional value chains.
  • The CKIC will also lead to an increase in the number of manufacturing industries and will also create job opportunities.
  • The loan amount will be used to upgrade about 590 km of state highways, resizing bridges or culverts in the areas of CKIC.
  • Also, various road safety improvement programmes with the use of advanced technologies will be adopted under the project.
