Current Context: India's second-largest oil marketing company, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) has partnered with Accenture to transform its sales and distribution network.

  • Under this partnership, Accenture will use its AI and cloud technologies to develop the digital infrastructure for BPCL. The digital platform developed by Accenture for BPCL will be named IRIS.
  • The IRIS platform will be based on the features like real-time data, automated alert and tracking mechanism.
  • The IRIS will integrate real-time data from across BPCL’s countrywide network which will provide a consolidated view of BPCL’s sales and distribution network.
  • The platform will also trigger automated alerts and actions in cases like equipment failures or hazardous situations.
  • Also, the employees will be empowered to make faster and accurate decisions, including preventive maintenance which will increase sales at fuel retail outlets by reducing infrastructure downtime, ensuring consistent quality and quantity of the fuel for the customers.
