Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety entered into an agreement to have technical cooperation.
- Both entities will cooperate technically for ‘Cities Combating Plastic Entering the Marine Environment’.
- The partnership between both nations is in line with the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban which will focus on sustainable solid waste management.
- The partnership will also help to achieve PM Modi’s vision to phase out single-use plastic by 2022.
- Both India and Germany will cooperate to prevent plastic from entering into marine environment as plastic is harmful to the lives of the marine ecosystem.
- Also, plastic gives a harmful impact on human health as there is a high risk of plastic particles entering the food chain.
- The partnership will be executed for a period of 3 and half years and the project will be implemented in states like UP, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar islands. It will be implemented in the cities of Kanpur, Kochi and Port Blair.
