Current Context: The 19th ‘Varuna-2021’ Naval Exercise which is held between the Indian and French Navy commenced.
Varuna 2021
  • It is being held in the Arabian Sea.
  • It is held to develop cooperation, synergy and interoperability between India and France Naval organisations.
  • Both the navies will conduct advanced anti-submarine and air defence exercises, tactical manoeuvres, intense fixed and rotary wing flying operations, underway replenishment, surface and anti-air weapon firings and other maritime security operations.
  • The Indian side will be represented by: INS Talwar, INS Tarkarsh, INS Kolkata, INS Deepak, Chetak Integral Helicopters, P81 Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft and a Kalvari Class Submarine.
  • France side will be represented by: E2C Hawkeye aircraft, helicopters Dauphin and Caiman M embarked, aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle, Rafale M Fighter, Aquitaine-class multi missions frigate FNS Provence, Caiman M Helicopter and Chevalier Paul.
