Current Context: The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released the ‘Global Trade Update’ for May 2021.
India, China & SA performed better in Import-Export During Q1 2021
  • As per the report, India, China and South Africa performed ‘relatively better’ in import-export trade activities during the 1st quarter of 2021.
  • India’s import increased by 45% and export increased by 26% in Q1 2021, as compared to the average value in 2020.
  • India’s service imports increased by 14% and service exports increased by 2%.
  • At the global level, the trade activities have increased by 10%, which is an increase of 3% compared to Q1 2019.
  • At the global level, the overall forecast for 2021 is predicted to be 16% for global trade, 19% for goods and 8% for services.
