Current Context: The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) of Sydney announced the 15th Global Peace Index (GPI).
15th Global Peace Index 2021
  • The GPI is the measure of global peacefulness across the world.
  • As per the index, India is ranked at 135th position in GPI among 163 independent states and territories.
  • The score of India in GPI is 2.553 and it means ‘Low State of Peace’ category.
  • The index is topped by Iceland and is thus termed to be the most peaceful country in the world.
  • The 2nd and 3rd ranks are marked by New Zealand and Denmark respectively.
  • The countries are ranked by considering 23 indicators in 3 domains of societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflicts, and degree of militarization.
